Student finalist for Rhodes Scholarship
David Mitchell, a senior majoring in English literature, was a finalist for a 2006 Rhodes Scholarship. Mitchell was not one of the 32 students named recipients of the prestigious award, but did reach the interview stage.
Mitchell, of Woodridge, IL., is in the honors program and is an All-American cross country runner. He has been cross country team captain for three years.
Mitchell is interested in international and comparative politics and law and their relation to human rights. He was an intern at a legal clinic at Northwestern University where he engaged in legal research on international children's rights, and he studied at the Selwyn College of Cambridge University for two terms. An article based on his Cambridge work has been published this year by the Duke Journal of Comparative and International Law.
