William McGrew elected Fellow of AAAS
William McGrew, professor of anthropology and zoology at Miami University , has been awarded the distinction of Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as a Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.
McGrew, part of the AAAS anthropology section, was elected for distinguished contributions to the study of human and primate behavioral evolution, particularly through comparative investigations of chimpanzee behavioral diversity and cultural primatology.
He is one of 10 anthropologists elected this year. McGrew is the fourth current Miami faculty member to be a Fellow, joining Richard Lee, Distinguished Professor of Zoology; Jane Butler Kahle, Condit Endowed Professor of Teacher Education; and Hardy Eshbaugh (botany emeritus).
This year’s 376 AAAS Fellows were announced in the Oct. 28 issue of the journal Science.
McGrew is on leave for the 2005-2006 academic year. He is currently university lecturer in the department of biological anthropology and Fellow of the Levehulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies at the University of Cambridge, England
