Art exhibition part of Botany Department's 100th anniversary
Treasures on Paper from the Lloyd:
Plants and Fungi
April 11-July 1, 2006

Landmark prints of botanical imagery from the Lloyd Library in Cincinnati commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Miami University Botany Department.
The exhibition "Treasures on Paper from the Lloyd: Plants and Fungi" opened Tuesday, April 11, at the Miami University Art Museum, part of a series of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of Miami's botany department.
The exhibition focuses on botanical studies from the Lloyd Library and Museum, located at 917 Plum St. in Cincinnati. Founded by three brothers who established a pharmaceutical business in Cincinnati in the 19th century, the Lloyd collection contains botanical, pharmaceutical and medicinal books and periodicals.
Miami botany professors have used the Lloyd collection for decades, introducing generations of students to the botanical illustrations that span 300 years.
Nicholas P. Money (botany) and W. Hardy Eshbaugh (botany emeritus) will discuss the exhibition at 4 p.m. Friday, April 21, at the museum. The talk will be followed by a reception; both events are free and open to the public. Money and Eshbaugh, along with Jack Keegan, are consultants for the exhibition.
Other anniversary events include a symposium on Saturday, April 22, in Pearson Hall, featuring botany alumni speakers with a reception following at 6 p.m. at the Miami Inn.
For more information, call the art museum at 9-2232 or the botany department at 9-4200. The exhibition continues through July 1. Museum hours are 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and noon -5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
