What Can I Do With a Major in Athletic Training?
The athletic training major at Miami University leads to the Bachelor of Science in Education degree and is an accredited curriculum by CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) and the National Athletic Trainers' Association - Joint Review Committee. The Mission of the Athletic Training Educational Program at Miami University is to prepare educated professional Athletic Trainers by providing opportunities through the academic curriculum as well as clinical experiences with Miami's Intercollegiate Athletics and off-campus internships. The program requirements for the major at Miami are scheduled in a four-year sequence. Students will develop skills in assessment, rehabilitation, reconditioning, prevention, immediate care, and administration. Areas of study include anatomy, biomechanics, and therapeutic exercise and modalities. In addition to the formal course requirements, a great deal of clinical experience under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer is required to successfully fulfill the program requirements and to attain a competency and proficiency of the required skills.
