Grievance Procedures
Academic Appeals Board
The primary objective of this procedure is to promote a step-by-step effort at reconciliation between an aggrieved student and an instructor. The emphasis is on maintaining good teaching practices. Since formal grievances are treated most seriously by the University and are considered matters of official record, students are cautioned to study this document very carefully before initiating a grievance through the Divisional Academic Appeals Board.
Neither the Academic Appeals Board nor any University official has the authority to change a grade. Only the faculty member who awards a grade may subsequently amend it. Thus, those whose only objective is to effect a change of grade are urged not to follow these procedures.
