Program Description
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in the Biological Sciences
is available through The College of Arts & Science at
Miami University. It is a cooperative program offered by
the Departments of Botany, Microbiology, and Zoology. This
program is designed for K-12 teachers who want a part-time,
non-thesis masters program conducted primarily during the
summer months when teachers are out of school. We have a
program track for high
school biology teachers and one for elementary
school teachers, who generally have little or no formal
background in biology. Those who teach in middle schools should
contact the MAT
Program Director to discuss which track would best fit their background,
interests and aspirations. This 32 credit hour degree program
can be completed in three or four summers, with students typically
taking 8 credit hours per summer.
Please be sure to examine all the information for the appropriate
program track. Either click on the underlined text in the
paragraph above, or use a link in the left margin.
If you wish to start the program in Fall 2007, Spring 2008, or Summer 2008,
you may submit application materials now. A completed application
form and two official copies of your college transcripts should
be sent directly to the Graduate School Office. You may apply
online, or you may download
an application form, complete it and
mail it in. For more information, visit the Graduate
School website, or go directly to the Graduate
School Admission web page.
No other materials are needed for appllication (the MAT program
does not require GRE scores or letters of recommendation).
