Flávia
M.C. Bastos is an Assistant Professor of
Art Education and the Director of Graduate
Studies at the University of Cincinnati.
Her art education practice and research
is focused on the different communities
she participates. In Cincinnati, she collaborates
with Art in the Market, a service-learning
project partnering School of Art students
and urban youth in the creation of community-base
works of art. She has developed connections
with local artists through her teaching
and research of community-based art in the
tri-state region. As an interpreter and
promoter of her own heritage, Professor
Bastos has spearheaded international exchanges
with Brazilian universities. Her writing
and research focus on the importance of
community-based art practices as an empowerment
tool for individuals and communities.
