MOSAIC brings Reality Television to the Stage!

REALITY

May 2-4 at the Music Hall
Production kicks off Mosaic's 10th Anniversary Celebration

The award-winning Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit will present Reality, a new play with music, based on Moliere's classic comedy "The Learned Ladies," at Detroit's Music Hall, May 2nd through the 4th. Presented by Ford Motor Company, Reality re-tells Moliere's comic story through the "lens" of a reality TV show. Reality is performed by Mosaic's critically-acclaimed Youth Ensemble made up of many of the most talented young artists in the Detroit metropolitan area.

In Reality, Moliere's comedy of young love, false learning and battling poets is brought to the 21st century and placed in the modern world of reality television. Through Mosaic's trademark style of high energy comedy and breathtaking musical harmonies, Reality follows the lives of young residents on a popular reality show as they strive to make choices that will shape the rest of their lives.

This production is the first of three major events celebrating Mosaic's 10th anniversary season: "A decade of developing dynamic young people and dazzling performances." On June 3rd, Mosaic will host its 10th Anniversary Gala at the GM Wintergarden in the Renaissance Center on the Detroit River. Presented by General Motors and Comerica, the gala will feature special guest, Dulé Hill, Emmy-nominated actor from "The West Wing" and performances by Mosaic. On July 16th, members of the Mosaic Singers will be traveling to Dakar, Senegal in Africa for a concert tour and cultural exchange.

The Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, celebrating its 10th anniversary season, is an internationally-acclaimed multicultural youth theatre. In 1999, Mosaic was awarded the "Coming Up Taller" award at the White House as one of the nation's top ten youth arts groups - selected by the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts. Mosaic's performances have toured regionally, nationally and internationally, including performances at the Kennedy Center and in Denmark, England and Singapore.

Mosaic offers a 9-month "Youth Ensemble" program providing free, quality theatrical and musical training for metropolitan Detroit area young people, ages 12-18. Representing more than 50 different schools from the city and suburbs, the Youth Ensemble rehearses after school and on weekends, and allows ensemble members to train for free with professional actors, writers, musicians and designers.

Public performances of Reality are Friday, May 2nd at 8:00 PM, Saturday, May 3rd at 8:00 PM, and Sunday, May 4th at 3:00 PM, with a 30 minute pre-performance by the Mosaic Singers for each show. Special student matinees will be held on Thursday, May 1st; and Friday, May 2nd at 10:00 AM.
