Leaf disk assays as well as hormone regulation treatment experiments have been in progress since 2000. Tests to speed up time to plant maturation through the addition of growth hormones has shown progress. Combining hormone treatments and optimizing concentrations and protocols have helped us better understand strategies in greenhouse propagation of palms. The main study species have been within the Sabal, and Trachycarpus genus.

Leaf disk assays have helped us to understand the difference between the cold acclimation capabilities of greenhouse palms and outdoor palms. The assay was completed throughout all four seasons of the year to show the effects of temperature extremes and cold duration on the leaf tissues of our study palms.
