1. Johnson - "Sports and literature gain respectability as a team." Written by Mark Curnutte. Story profiles Bob Johnson, professor of English and former chair of the English department, and his use of sports in literature.
Johnson believes that sports can be used as a methaphor for literature. 1.5-page main bar, with two pictures, one of Miami football and one Miami baseball.

2. National Geographic - "Former pipefitter maps out a new career. Miami
grad finds a niche at National Geographic." Written by Debbie Drew. Story
profiles 1980 Miami University graduate Bob Dulli, who went from 10 years of
pipefitting in Hamilton, Ohio to a position as administrative assistant in
the president's office of the National Geographic Society in Wachington,
D.C. 1.5-page main bar, with half page picture of Bob Dulli at his desk.

3. Math - "Math professors make story problems enjoyable. Readin' Writin'
and Havin' Fun." Written by Christine Skrobola. Story profiles Miami math
professors Diane Thomas and Joe Kennedy, who have written a six volume
series titled, "A Tangle of Mathematical Yarns." The series is compiled of
mathematical problems that involve real life stories and situations.
1.75-page main bar with picture of Thomas and Kennedy.

4. The Nadlers - "The Nadlers: A marriage without communications
problems." Written by Lana Beros. Story profiles Larry and Marjorie Nadler,
married assistant professors in the Communication and Theatre Department.
1.5-page main bar, quarter page side bar titled "Marjorie Nadler's Tips on
Public Relations, quarter page side bar titled "Larry Nadler's Tips on
Communication Skills and a picture of the Nadlers in their office.

5. After graduation - "What happens to Miami grads? Life after college."
Written by Pete Sullivan and Jane Prendergast. Story looks at Miami
graduates and where they go after Miami. 1-page main bar with one pie
chart, a half page photo of Don Kaufman, assistant dean of the College of
Arts and Science, and a quarter page side bar titled "Other Findings of the
May, 1982, Survey."

6. Day - "Dean Day: Determined to improve education." Story profiles
Stephen Day, the new dean of the College of Arts and Science, he talks about
his youth and his determination to change Miami. 1.5-page main bar and
photoof Stephen Day I front of the Upham arches.

7. Mortality - "Confrontation: Students learn to face mortality." Written
by Kirk Donnan. Story discusses Miami's interdisciplinary course,
Confronting Death. The course taught students how to deal with the death of
others and their own future death. 1.5-page main bar with sketch of a young
girl at the cemetery.

8. Free - "Phi Beta Kappa Scholar dances through college." Written by
Stacy Day. Story profiles Becky Free, a Phi Beta Kappa Scholar, who is busy
from 9 a.m. until 12 a.m. Free dances, rehearses, and goes to classes all
day, but still maintains a 3.9 gpa. .75-page main bar with 4 photos of Free
dancing.

9. Williams - "Peter Williams dishes up creative cookery. The
Galloping...Professor?" Written by Dorothy Mitchell. Story profiles Peter
Williams, a religion professor at Miami, who is a master chef at home.
1-page main bar, with photo of Williams and a column recipe.

10. Kerek - "Andy Kerek: Memories of hardship, happiness today." Written
by Patti Tobin. Story profiles Andy Kerek, the assistant dean for
conference planning in the College of Arts and Science. In the 1950's Kerek
was a Hungarian refugee, held in a camp in Eastern Austria. 1.5-page main
bar, with quarter page photo of Kerek and a half page excerpt from Kerek's
Hungarian diary.

11. Botany - "In search of new organisms ... Botanist explores the
microscopic world." Written by Jim Witters. Story profiles Botanist Martha
Powell, an associate professor at Miami who has received $210,000 in funding
from various organizations to complete her research isolating organelles
examining them. 1.75-page main bar with 2 photos, one of a microorganism
and one of Powell in her lab.

12. Flynn - "Love Project: Probing inner human emotion." Written by Lisa
Harley. Story profiles Charles Flynn, associate professor of sociology,
believes that love is the key to happiness and teaches that to his students.
.5-page main bar with photo of Flynn.

13. Earley - "Co-operative education ... Science students learn the ropes
at Mead Johnson." Written by Deborah R. Meyer. Story profiles Jamie Earley,
a Miami student who received a co-op position, testing chemical at Mead
Johnson. .75-page main bar with photo of Meyer working in the lab.

14. Hart - "Geologist studies Ethiopian volcanoes." Written by Scott
Barr. Story profiles Geologist and Miami professor William Hart, who
traveled through the deserts of East Africa studying volcanoes. 1.75-page
main bar with photo of Hart's geological camp.

15. The Old Northwest - "The culture of the territory lives on ...
Historians preserve the Old Northwest tradition." Written by Bronwen
Howells. Story profiles David Frazier and Robert Kettler, professor and
associate professor of English, published the first scholarly journal titled
The Old Northwest. 1.5-page main bar with sketch of The Old Northwest and an
index page from the journal.

16. Wilson - "Jim Wilson stumbles onto history. Miami through the eyes of
a poet." Written by Jim Wilson. Story is a poem by Wilson about Yager
stadium and his explanation of how, where and why he wrote the poem.
1.5-page main story with 2 photos of Wilson at Yager stadium.

17. Leventer - "Physics student combines computer with fun." Written by
Nancy Hill. Story profiles Steve Levanter, a physics major at Miami, who in
his spare time he created a computer program, a home security program that
works through a personal computer. .75-page main bar, with photo of
Leventer sitting next to his computer.

18. Musgrave - "Eine kleine volkmusik." Written by Martha Morgan. Story
profiles English professor Martha Musgrave, whose hobby is collecting and
learning German folk songs. During the past 17 years, Musgrave has learned
more than 1,000 songs, 500 are in her memory. .75-page main bar with photo
of side profile of Musgrave.
