Alumni Reception at GSA - The Geological Society of America meetings are always a good place to re-establish ties with Miami friends. This year the meeting will be held October 5 - 9 in Houston, Texas. As in past years, we will participate in the group alumni reception on October 6 from 7:00 - 9:30 PM at the Hilton America's Houston. We look forward to seeing all the alumni who can make it to GSA.

Baldwin Frontiers in Geology Distinguished Lectureship - This is an endowed account set up to honor A. Dwigth Baldwin, Jr. to bring to campus scholars with national or international reputations to interact with faculty and students. The sixth lecture took place during the fall semester 2007 with Grant Heiken, Independent Consultant, Author, Past President International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior, Geologist (retired) Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dr. Heiken spoke on "Gods and Monsters - Human Perceptions of Volcanoes" . Check back in the future for the date and title of next fall's talk. Anyone wishing to contribute to this endowment can do so by sending contributions to the Geology Department.

Limper Lecture Series - Each fall the Department sponsors a Saturday morning lecture series for the general public on a theme related to the earth sciences. These talks have proven interesting and lively, and have served as a vehicle for introducing geology to the public and for drawing alumni back to the department. For more information contact Kendall Hauer at (513) 529-3220. We hope that you will join us for a cup of coffee or tea, a donut and a stimulating discussion on some point of geological interest.

Alumni Update Form

We are always glad to reconnect with our Alumni! Click here to access the form to relate personal or job-related news for inclusion in the annual Shideler Shibboleth. You may also use this form to update your current address, phone number and email address.

The department also maintains a rather large alumni database and periodically we lose touch with some of our alums. Please review the list of lost alums and if you know the whereabouts of someone on this list, please send contact information for that person or have them contact us directly by sending an email to the departmental Administrative Assistant, Cathy Edwards.
