An IES Tradition
Our students do research that focuses on practical solutions to broad environmental problems that serve the citizens of Butler County, Ohio, and the United States. IES students:
- manage a national weather station
- spearhead stream stewardship efforts
- assist with recycling efforts
- help with local transportation studies
IES and our students provide logistic and other support to the following projects.

Beckett Ridge Wetland Restoration
- monitor wetland biology and chemistry as part of stormwater mitigation strategy
Bull Run Creek Erosion and Stability
- monitor stream bank erosion
Butler County Environmental Services
- facilitate recycling in apartment complexes

Butler County Stormwater Outfall Monitoring
- monitor and sample stormwater outfalls
Butler County Stream Team 
- monitor streamwater quality
- provide data on stream habitats
- educate residents about stormwater runoff and effects on stream health
- is a collaborative effort of IES, Butler County resident volunteers, Butler County Storm Water District
, and the Butler Soil and Water Conservation District 
EPA/Shaw Environmental Stream Facility
- supervise invertebrate analyses
Myaamia Landscape Project
- increase capacity of Miami Nation of Oklahoma to manage its natural and cultural resources in a sustainable manner
- conduct annual environmental assessment of properties

Twin Creek Watershed
Coordinator
- organize watershed planning, education, and implementation for the protection and restoration of local water resources
Weather Station and Atmospheric Chemistry Monitoring
- monitor precipitation chemistry, dry deposition, and ozone
