In the fall of 2009, Heath reflected on his time at Miami University.

"As a junior at Miami University I have had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities that has made my college experience much more than I ever imagined it would be. This year I am currently interning for the Solicitor of the City of Cincinnati as part of my experience as a Wilks Scholar. Through my work in Cincinnati's City Hall and the Wilks Leadership Institute I have been able to explore ways to connect my interests in public administration and law with my passion for revitalizing democratic participation.

"I have also had two phenomenal study abroad opportunities. I recently conducted research on the island nation of Dominica in the Eastern-Caribbean. While in Dominica I studied their local government system and the state of their democracy. I spent this past summer living in Europe and took courses at Miami University's campus in Luxembourg. Miami's excellent study abroad opportunities set it apart from many other institutions I looked at before coming. These two programs have forever shaped my life and how I view the world. I hope to have the chance to go abroad again before I graduate.

"Since my freshman year I have been assisting with research projects for the Center for Public Management and Regional Affairs at Miami University. This year I hope to further research the topic of residency requirements for city employees and the implications those have for public managers. I hope to eventually publish this work. I will also present some of the projects I have completed for the Center during my undergraduate college career at a professional conference."
