The Limper Geology Museum at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio holds over 185,000 fossil specimens and approximately 6,000 rock and mineral specimens. The collections are particularly impressive not only because of the sheer size, but the fact that valuable collecting data accompanies most specimens.

Students and scientists use the collecting data to study many different aspects of fossils and rocks, including the origins of the specimen. Without this information, the museum would simply be a geological display case.

The museum is constanly transferring collecting data to an online database. The online database allows you to search the collections to discover what specimens are available at the museum to study or borrow.
