Tektite samples

Tektites are formed when a meteorite collides with the earth: the result can be a beautiful formation of pure silicon glass and other elements. Meteorite craters are not always obvious or even present because of the earth's changing crust. Therefore, the appearance of tektites in the earth's crust is evidence of a meteorite's impact. The Limper Geology Museum has samples of the following tektites:

• Australites (found in Australia)
• Billitonites (found on Billiton Island in Indonesia)
• Indochinites (found in Indochina)
• Moldavites (found in Czechoslovakia)
• Rizalites (found in Rizal in the Philippines)
