More than 200 high school biology teachers, mostly from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, have completed this highly successful Summer Recombinant DNA and Biotechnology Workshop. This workshop has been funded by the National Science Foundation for the last ten years. Each summer, the workshop lasts for two weeks and the participating teachers are engaged in extensive lecture, discussions, laboratory and lesson planning activities from morning until night. Because of the workshop, the participating teachers significantly enhanced their confidence and basic knowledge of molecular biology as well as their technical skills for hands-on activities to be incorporated into their classroom teaching. These teachers collectively teach each year more than 20,000 students, representing rural, inner city, and suburban public and private high schools.
