Assistant Professor of Microbiology
- Position: The Department of Microbiology invites applications for a tenure-track position on its Hamilton campus for August 2008. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required; postdoctoral and/or teaching experience desired. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses including medical microbiology (100-level) and epidemiology, establish and maintain an active research program, and participate in university service and civic engagement. The research specialty is open; candidates with interests that complement research expertise of faculty within Microbiology (microbiology ecology, microbial physiology, pathogenic microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, microbial genetics, bioinformatics, and virology), or on the Hamilton Campus (aquatic and terrestrial ecology) are encouraged to apply. The Hamilton Campus (enrollment 3500) is located 16 miles from the main campus in Oxford, where state-of-the-art research facilities are located. The successful applicant will be a full member of the Department of Microbiology. Start-up funds are available.
Department: The Department of Microbiology, established in 1956 in the College of Arts and Science, offers Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Microbiology, and the Bachelor of Science degree in clinical laboratory science. The faculty also participate in interdisciplinary graduate programs in Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology, in Cellular, Molecular and Structural Biology and the Master of Arts in Teaching in Biological Science. The Department is composed of 12 faculty members, over 20 Ph.D./M.S. students, and approximately 300 majors. The Department occupies modern research and teaching facilities in Pearson Hall. The Electron Microscopy Facility, Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics, Ecological Research Center, and Animal Care Facilities offer support for departmental research interests.
University: Miami University is ranked among the top national public universities. The Oxford campus, near Cincinnati, has over 16,000 students. Miami's nearby regional campuses include the Hamilton campus (an open admission commuter campus with 3500 students) and the Middletown campus. Miami also maintains a European Center in Luxembourg.
