Whys and Wherefores
Older Americans Act services, as outlined in the act’s 1973 amendments, are administrated by 56 state and territorial units on aging, the 655 area agencies on aging these units oversee, and (via 1975 and 1978 amendments) 243 tribal organizations that manage aging services for Native Americans in this country.
