Welcome to the Miami University
Department of Physics
At Miami, the goal of our Physics BS and AB as well as our Engineering Physics
BS degrees is not only to provide the foundation for training physicists,
but also to provide undergraduates with a liberal education from which a
variety of traditional and non-traditional careers might be
explored. Studying physics will develop your analytical thinking, problem
solving, and communications skills. The Department of Physics provides a
broad background in physics and introduces students to the technology of today
and tomorrow.
Most of our graduates go on to graduate or professional schools
in a variety of fields, including physics, engineering, medicine, business,
and law. Other students find employment in the private sector or in government.
In our technically-oriented society, many professional fields can use individuals
with strong science backgrounds. More than ever before, women and men who
study physics find themselves entering a wider range of career fields.
In addition to our undergraduate programs, Miami offers the graduate
degree Master of Science in Physics. Our graduate students complete advanced
level courses in physics, mathematics, and other sciences, and complete
a thesis. Please follow the Graduate Program link at the left for
more information.

Prof. Blue in the News:
Actually, girls like science
A Miami University survey of nearly 2,000 girls in grades 4-8 found they liked science and math less in 8th grade than they did in 4th grade. That's not all: They started out liking social sciences and language arts even less, and similarly lost interest in those subjects as they approached 8th grade.
