Information for Students
Are you a high school or other prospective student considering Miami University for your undergraduate education? Or are you a current MU student considering a career in the legal profession? Then use this page to quickly locate the information you need about our programs.
Advising
Ms. Yvette Simpson, Esq., the Director and Chief Advisor, provides information about the law school admissions process, including tailored and focused advice about the different law school options available to each student, consider alternative careers or graduate school options within their major.
In addition to the advising offered by the Pre-Law Director, you should also seek advice regarding your specific academic program or major. Departmental Liaisons serve as the initial point of contact for pre-law students within their major. They can provide support and advice as you: select major courses and electives, secure letters of recommendation from faculty within your discipline, and consider alternative careers or graduate school options within their major.
Students can also seek advice from the college's Academic Advising Center.
Pre-Law Center
The Pre-Law Center, located in 159 Upham Hall, will serve as a place for all things pre-law. In addition to housing the program's administrative offices, it provides a resource library that students may use to reference topics such as law school admissions, different areas of legal practice, how to transition from college to law school, and insight into the law school experience.
Computers are available for students to research and apply to law schools. The center is also a great place for students to gather to discuss legal issues or study in groups for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).

Opportunities
Students have many opportunities to learn from and network with legal professionals, as well as with fellow students:
- Workshops
- Several workshops are offered throughout the year on various topics of interest to pre-law students.
- Mentoring
- Miami students will be paired with alumni mentors who are current law students or lawyers. These mentors will provide guidance for students on how to succeed in the law school environment and what it takes to be a successful lawyer.
- Law Day Fair
- Pre-Law Programs, in collaboration with Miami University's Political Science Department and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, conducts an annual law day fair. Representatives from law schools from across the country come to Miami to provide pre-law students with information about their respective law schools, and to answer questions for students about the law school admissions process, and about law school in general.
The upcoming Law Day Fair has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 11 am - 2 pm in the Shriver Center's Heritage Room. More details will be provided as they are available. - Student Organizations
- If you are interested in law, consider joining a law-related student organization at Miami.
