0. Annoying install and upgrade prompts that
crop up when the OS is finally installed.
Solution:
1. Cancel all these enticements by clicking on the x box or cancel
button.
Samsung, Bill, MS, and third
party software developers don’t need to take over our lives at this stage -
we’re just evaluating the machine, for pity sake!
1. System doesn’t boot and stalls because
Msboot log is unavailable:
Solution:
1. Attach Q1 to external USB keyboard
2. Control + Alt + Delete
3. When Samsung screen is displaying, press F4 (you have to be
quick!)
4. Follow basic recovery path from here, the OS recovers w/o losing
user configurations
2. Screen brightness is not set-able by the menu
button:
I haven’t quite figured this
one out yet, but I have determined the alternative path to setting screen
brightness when that menu button doesn’t work.
NB.: This is best done with
the Q1 connected to AC and inside - unless you like looking at yourself
outside!
1. Once you are into the OS,
tunnel down as follows:
2. Start
3. Control Panel
4. Mobile PC
5. Power Options
6. Adjust display brightness
Here, there will be two
options; Battery and AC.
I suggest that you crank the
Battery Display Option up to max, and save it.
This will shorten the time
you have to use the computer in the field, but at least seeing the display
becomes a non-issue, at least to my eyes.
Please experiment with the
other set-able options, since these Q1's are as new to me as they are to you,
and the end objective is to probably replace the Sony 505's with the Q1's.
That means any operational
hints you can discover will be valuable to future Dendrology students!
