Student Organizations

If you are interested in law, consider joining a law-related student organization. For more information about each of these organizations, feel free to contact Student Activities and Leadership.

Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity

Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity (PAD) is a professional and service-oriented fraternal organization for students interested in the practice of law. One of the largest legal organizations in the country, PAD has pre-law and law chapters across the country. Along with organizing seminars and workshops on law school and legal practice, PAD also organizes law school trips, community service projects, LSAT study groups, and social events for its members and members of other law-related organizations.

Mock Trial Team

Mock Trial is an intercollegiate competition among schools across the country. At the beginning of each year, teams are given a fictional legal case, complete with witness affidavits and applicable case law. According to the American Mock Trial Association, through engaging in trial simulations in competition with teams from other institutions, students develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as knowledge of legal practices and procedures. Miami's team has done very well over the years, winning both regional and national competitions.

The legislative branch, chaired by the Executive Vice President, consists of the Student Senate, a body of 49 elected student representatives. The judicial branch, Student Court, consists of 15 justices who act as student advocates, and as jurors for non-suspendable disciplinary cases.
